Singing Mary’s Song – Sherri Guenther Trautwein

Text: Luke 1:39-56

In Luke’s Gospel Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth and then sings an inspiring and … unexpected song. She sings of the good news of God’s upsidedown kingdom – but do the politically challenging words of this song line up with our traditional picture of Mary “meek and mild”? How does Mary’s unexpected song inform our Advent reflections as we anticipate the birth of Jesus? How might the “songs” we sing be unexpected messages of good news for those around us?
