1 Samuel 21 – 22
This is a horrible story: deception, betrayal, violence, murder. And yet, beneath it all there is a hopeful contrast between the ways the characters perceive the presence of God. On one side is David, desperate for protection and hungry for help, and on the other is Doeg, ready to use holy places and people to his own advantage. Their choice between holiness and hate began long before they arrived at the extremes in this story; and it’s a choice made by each of us today, long after this story has become ancient history.
