This week as we continue Walking with Jesus and as we celebrate Eternity Sunday as a congregation, we make a stop at Bethany. Here we encounter Jesus in a surprising place associating with surprising people and experiencing a surprising gift of anointing. It’s scandalous (!), and yet, Jesus declares this moment to be a central and enduring part of the proclamation of the good news from this point forward. How does “making a scene” translate into gospel truth and what does this story reveal about Jesus and our call to be his disciples?
