Living a Hard Pressed Life – Sherri Guenther Trautwein

 September 24, 2023

This week we will visit the church in Philippi. In Philippians 1:23, Paul describes himself as “hard pressed” between his desire to live and his desire to die. How do we respond when we feel the pressures of life bearing down on us? How can we be people of light when the going gets tough?

Scripture readings:

Exodus 16:2-15
Psalm 105:1-6, 37-45
Philippians 1:21-30
Matthew 20:1-16

Homework: Think of someone you know that has lived a ‘hardpressed’ life. What about their story inspires you or instructs you as you face pressures in your own life?

Heartwork: In what areas of your life do you feel ‘hardpressed’? The apostle Paul encouraged the Philippians to face the pressures of their circumstance by putting Christ at the center. Does this give you hope? Does it leave you with questions? Sit with this tension and invite God’s Spirit to speak to your heart.
