Lent 2 – Jonah and Judas, Spectators – Paul Cumin

 March 17, 2019

Text: Jonah 4; Luke 22:1-6

For this, the second Sunday in Lent, we’ll finish our study of Jonah – and the story does indeed conclude with the prophet in a Lenten mood. The secondary text for this sermon is the betrayal of Jesus by Judas. In both cases, we find a biblical character sharply at odds with the ways of God, and deeply torn by the social and psychological turmoil this entails. How do we sometimes live against the grain of God’s grace, and what does it mean to embrace this darkness en route to the passion of Jesus?
