Gentle Giants – Sherri Guenther Trautwein

 October 15, 2023

This week, we will continue in our sermon series “People of Light” and we will reflect on the apostle’s call to the Philippians to: Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. (4:5). What does it mean to be people who prioritize gentleness, even in the face of difficult or stressful circumstances? How does a commitment to gentleness influence our thoughts and our actions as we seek to stand firm in faith?

Scripture readings:

Exodus 32:1-14
Psalm 106:1-6, 19-23
Philippians 4:1-9
Matthew 22:1-14

Homework: Listen to this reading of The Smartest Giant in Town. Does this portrayal of gentleness help you think about biblical calls to gentleness in new ways? How would you define gentleness?

Heartwork: Is there a conversation or situation in your life where a gentle approach is needed? What holds you back from yielding? Can you think of a time someone was gentle with you? How did this change the circumstance for you and for them?
