Text: Acts 6:8-15; 7:1-3, 51-60

In Mennonite circles, there is a famous picture of Dirk Willems, an early Anabaptist martyr. He is saving someone who is drowning; the story, as recorded in the book the Martyr’s Mirror, tells us that the person he rescues arrests him and Dirk is subsequently burnt at the stake. This picture of “loving your enemies” is evocative and haunting. This Sunday I’ll be reflecting on the picture in a number of different ways; how do these stories of people living out our faith inspire us?
