In the Community

Mennonite Central Committee
It’s time to get ready, get set and GO! From May 22 to August 30, you’re invited to join us as we rally around a big goal: to raise $100,000 to support people in vulnerable situations through MCC’s relief, development, and peace work. Every move matters! Organize an event (a concert, golf game, backyard BBQ), or set up a personal challenge (ride, walk, sew, play, read) and help fuel this summer’s MCC Alberta community fundraiser! Click here to sign up! https://mcc.org/events/ready

Grow Hope 2026: Our generous Alberta farmers will, once again, be growing 344 acres of crops to benefit the world. Don’t despair, make a difference! You can Grow Hope and help to provide daily bread for people around the world. Sponsor acres or a part of an acre of Alberta farmland ($350/acre) and our Grow Hope farmers will grow and sell the crop. Proceeds go into MCC’s account at the Canadian Foodgrains Bank and are used for food relief, agricultural training, and livelihood support around the world! Go to org/growhopealberta to learn more.

RSVP for the Relief Sale! Bergthal Event Centre is hosting the MCC Alberta Relief Sale on May 30, featuring fundraising, fellowship, and food. If you’re planning to come and haven’t yet, please RSVP at mcc.org/events/albertareliefsale!

Do you have a donation you’ve been meaning to drop off at MCC Thrift but keep forgetting? The Calgary Thrift Shop team will host a thrift donations drop-off at the Relief Sale.  Please, no furniture or other large item donations as our cargo space back to Calgary from Didsbury is limited!

For information about MCC announcements, or questions about any MCC activity, call the MCC Alberta office at 403-275-6935.

Scenes from a Divided Countryside: Rural Alberta and the UCP – For a long time, “rural Alberta” has served as an unsatisfactory though convenient political short-hand for many. In this talk, Epp will suggest that the deepening fault-lines in this province do not divide “rural” from “urban,” so much as they run through rural communities, where the day-to-day points of political friction — whether on health, municipal authority, taxation, land, or environment — mostly involve the provincial government, and have little to do with Ottawa. Join David Goa and Roger Epp for our final Philosopher Café before we break for the summer. All are welcome to join in on this discussion. | Philosopher Café Series  June 3 | 1:30 – 3 p.m.  Mainstreet 1908, 4857 50 St, Camrose, AB.

Hands Off Our Books: A Ronning Centre Conversation –  In partnership with The Fellowship of the Camrose Public Library we will be featuring a screening of The Librarians and a panel on the challenges facing public libraries—and how we can support them in Alberta.  June 3 | 6:30 pm Mayer Hall, Lougheed Performing Arts Centre.
