Church Family Happenings

 September 8, 2023

At LMC

This Sunday is Welcome Back Sunday! We will have an intergenerational choir, we’ll bless everyone returning to school this year, and we’ll return to Christian Education classes. We have classes for all ages, so join us after the worship service to kick off a new year of learning and growing together.

Welcome to the 2023/2024 program of Adult Christian Education at Lendrum Mennonite Church! This ten-month schedule is presented after the Worship Service on most Sundays, getting underway at 11:15 and winding up at noon. Subjects are chosen from three categories, which rotate through the program: Inspirational/Biblical—in-depth examinations of religious topics; Community Hermeneutics, where all attendees get to share their opinions and experiences on a range of subjects; and Daily Living—information and resources for our secular world.

Our program commences this Sunday with a very practical topic—Computer Safety: Presented by our very own Andrew T. Andrew is an Associate Professor of Computing Science (CS). He  completed his Ph. D. at the University of Alberta in 2012 and has been at King’s CS department ever since. He will give us some invaluable advice on using your computer wisely and with an understanding of what wisdom looks like in the data universe.

Sunday, Sept. 17—Baptism: Rob S. leads an exercise in Community Hermeneutics on the subject of baptism, its historical significance, and our practice, here at LMC. What does baptism mean to you and what has your experience been?

Sunday, Sept. 24—War and Violence in the Bible: Pastor Sherri GT has recently submitted her Ph. D. thesis and she gives us the benefit of her learnings along the way: “War and violence surface time and again throughout the Bible—even in the New Testament depiction of Mary! How did first-century Christians understand this imagery as descriptive of the life of faith?” (This is the first presentation in a series of six.)

We are not longer streaming our worship service on Zoom or Sermon.net. If you would like to join us online, you can watch our livestream on YouTube. If you have trouble accessing the YouTube stream, please contact the office for help.

Please check your weekly bulletin for prayer requests and other church family news.
