Edmonton area churches: Monday, Nov. 3 at 2:00 pm. The Canadian Foodgrains Bank invites you to King’s University to hear Shepherd Tipo from World Renew, Uganada. She will talk about the work of empowering women in building community and family livelihoods. This is similar to work MCC does through it’s partners and CFGB.
Edmonton area churches: Interested in becoming part of a group of volunteer visitors at the Edmonton Institution for Women? Many incarcerated women greatly value receiving visitors from the “outside”. Visitors break up the boredom, bring in a sense of normalcy, provide a listening ear, and help the women know they are not forgotten. After viewing the 2016 documentary film “Look & See: A Portrait of Wendell Berry” and enjoying sample fare from the Food Artisans of Camrose County, we host a conversation between Ben Aguilar of the Berry Center (Kentucky, USA) and Joseph Wiebe, PhD. of the Ronning Centre (Camrose). The film and conversation will share themes that connect to the heart of our community. Strangers No More
All are invited to the Book Launch to be held at First Mennonite Church on November 8, from 3:00 to 4:30. Three founding Edmonton Mennonite churches answered a call 40+ years ago to accompany refugees on their resettlement journey. Many of the stories from these four decades are now contained in a book “Strangers No More”, authored by Gary Garrison with a foreword by Senator Paula Simon.
