Church Family Happenings

 July 7, 2023

At LMC

On July 16, Lendrum will be hosting Vurayayi Pugeni and Thelma Sadzamari, Area Directors for MCC South and Central Africa and Nigeria. We will also be joined by members of other Mennonite churches for a special worship service. Come hear stories and updates about MCC’s work, and worship with friends! Following the service, join us for coffee and treats, an opportunity for fellowship, and a chance to ask questions of Thelma and Vurayayi.

The Discipleship Commission invites you to participate in our Mennonite Beach Book Festival this summer! Get familiar with your church library, track your summer reading, and share your favourite summer reads with others. Starting July 9, the library will have a table of recommendations available in the foyer, but as always, we encourage you to check out the library downstairs for anything that catches your eye.

Please check your weekly bulletin for prayer requests and other church family news.

Camp Evergreen

Evergreen is still seeking volunteers this summer. Camp is beginning! Evergreen still needs a Camp Nurse for a few weeks. If you have your Standard First Aid with CPR L3 and might be able to volunteer for a week, contact Josh at program@camp-evergreen.com. Camp Evergreen also needs kitchen volunteers! The kitchen needs volunteers for these weeks: July 9-14, July 23-28, July 30-August 4, August 8-11, August 13-18, and August 20-25. Again, if you can volunteer your time and skills, contact Josh.

Opportunities for “Showing up” with our Indigenous neighbours this summer:

As we live into our commitment to live in Good and Right relationships with our Indigenous neighbours, we have numerous opportunities in July and August to join in Indigenous—led activities. I would invite us to consider joining some of these together as a Mennonite community of fellow travelers in this land. Below are two opportunities for us to add to our local stories/experiences of connection.

Tuesday, July 25: Annual pilgrimage and blessing of the lake at Lac St. Anne, one hour outside of Edmonton. This pilgrimage attracts Indigenous Catholics from far and wide. Leaving at 9:00 AM and returning at 2:00 PM. Food trucks on site.

Saturday August 19: St. Albert Poundmakers Pow-wow. Arrive at 12:30 in time for the 1:00 Grand Entry.

Please call or text or email me if you are interested in joining together: 780 700 4667, suzannegross@netscape.net.  We can organize car pooling, etc.

New publications from the MB Herald are available. You can read the June 2023 Digest here. You can also read Ryan Jantzi’s reflections on the July prayer focus—the Holy Spirit—here.

No Room at the Inn

Each Christmas, the No Room in the Inn (NRII) multi-denomination ministry gives funding for a different project providing or improving Edmonton and area housing for the disadvantaged. In 2022 over $46,000 was raised to support a Canadian Mental Health Association Edmonton Region project. If an organization that you participate in has a housing-related project that qualifies for this ministry, please submit an application! For more information, you can contact Larry Wright at nrii.edm@gmail.com or 780-419-3224. The deadline for applications has been extended to August 1, 2023.
