Church Family Happenings

 July 28, 2023

At LMC

The Discipleship Commission invites you to participate in our Mennonite Beach Book Festival this summer! Get familiar with your church library, track your summer reading, and share your favourite summer reads with others. Throughout the summer, the library will have a table of recommendations available in the foyer, but as always, we encourage you to check out the library downstairs for anything that catches your eye.

Please check your weekly bulletin for prayer requests and other church family news.

Camp Evergreen

There’s still room in some camps! There are still spots available in two Base Camps: Sparks and Ignite 2. There are also some spots in the Out-trip Adventure and Roughin’ It camps, as well as in the Pit Crew Camps. Learn more and register for camp here!

Campership Aid. We often get asked why camp prices are so high. Inflation and the cost of doing camp has risen exponentially over the last few years. To keep camp sustainable, we had to make a change. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to see all campers come to camp regardless of being able to afford it. How do we subsidize camp programs for those campers? Amazing donors who support our Campership Aid program. This year we will need nearly $50,000 to cover camp costs for kids who can’t afford it. Would you consider becoming a donor? Learn more and donate here.

Bridge Building Ministries, Mennonite Church AB

Opportunities for “Showing up” with our Indigenous neighbours this summer:

As we live into our commitment to live in Good and Right relationships with our Indigenous neighbours, we have numerous opportunities in July and August to join in Indigenous—led activities. I would invite us to consider joining some of these together as a Mennonite community of fellow travelers in this land. Below is an opportunity for us to add to our local stories/experiences of connection.

Saturday August 19: St. Albert Poundmakers Pow-wow. Arrive at 12:30 in time for the 1:00 Grand Entry.

Please call or text or email me if you are interested in joining together: 780 700 4667, suzannegross@netscape.net.  We can organize car pooling, etc.

No Room at the Inn

Each Christmas, the No Room in the Inn (NRII) multi-denomination ministry gives funding for a different project providing or improving Edmonton and area housing for the disadvantaged. In 2022 over $46,000 was raised to support a Canadian Mental Health Association Edmonton Region project. If an organization that you participate in has a housing-related project that qualifies for this ministry, please submit an application! For more information, you can contact Larry Wright at nrii.edm@gmail.com or 780-419-3224. The deadline for applications has been extended to August 1, 2023.
