Church Family Happenings

 February 2, 2024

At LMC

On February 4 after church, the youth group will be selling some baked treats in the foyer! They’re raising money for a youth ski trip. Bring some cash and enjoy the results of their hard work!

Hungering for Hope. Lent starts on February 14, and once again we’re planning 6-weeks of small groups for our church. Everyone is invited to sign up, and then those who are interested will be randomly assigned a group. Last year, over 20 people signed up, and we ran 6 groups, so if you participated last year, you’ll remember what this was like. We will be using the resources written by Mennonite Spiritual Directors of Eastern Canada. Click here to sign up, or talk to Pastor Kevin for more information.

On February 28, join the Lendrum Piecemakers for their Great Winter Warm-Up! Drop in and out between 10 and 3 to help tie quilts for MCC. No prior experience is necessary; if you can tie a knot, you can help! There will be a soup lunch at noon, and coffee after cleanup!

Adult Christian Education meets after the Sunday Worship Service at 11:15 in Fellowship Hall! Here is a look at our upcoming sessions:
Sunday, Feb. 4: Pastor Sherri will continue her series on how we wrestle with war and violence in the Bible.
Sunday, Feb 11: The Church Evaluation Committee will report this week on the results of the second part of the church evaluation survey, and we’ll also have the opportunity to discuss those results with the pastors.

Please check your weekly bulletin for prayer requests and other church family news.

Camp Evergreen

Pond Hockey Tournament. Due to the extreme cold, the 3 on 3 Pond Hockey Fund Raiser, originally set for Jan 13, 2024, is now postponed and is being scheduled for Feb 10, 2024 at Camp Evergreen. So any players looking forward to a little on-ice hockey action, please contact Abe T. You are welcome to of course bring your families for a day of fun and camp food. Donations can be made to Camp Evergreen, for the Campers Aid Fund, helping those kids attend camp that otherwise would not be able to afford coming to camp. Donations of course are not limited to the players but are welcome from all.

Winterfest Family Camp. February 16-18, join us for Winterfest Family Camp, a 2-night camp designed specifically for families. Camp includes wide games, fireside, chapel times, worship through music, skating, snowshoeing, and all of our amazing activities. Come connect with other families, explore creation, and grow in your faith.

The King’s University

Quandries Public Lecture Series. On the first Tuesday of every month, Dr. Jeff Dudiak hosts a public lecture series about contemporary moral dilemmas. On Feb. 6, 2024 at 7:00 pm, we’ll hear from Morẹ́nikẹ́ Ọláòṣebìkan on the topic of traditional African medicine, decolonizing medical practice, and culturally inclusive care. How might the philosophical foundations underpinning traditional African medicine intersect with the principles of evidence-based medicine? Learn more and register here.

Parents’ Night. King’s invites parents of grade 11 and 12 students to come out on February 7 from 6:30 – 9 pm to learn about what King’s has to offer! Parents who attend will receive a light dinner and a free application voucher for their children. Find out more and register here.

Faith Spaces | Safe Spaces

On February 11th, 1:00-4:30pm, in conjunction with United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week, and during Black History Month, Faith Spaces | Safe Spaces will bring together a growing network of passionate people from diverse spiritual and religious backgrounds who are committed to the work of anti-racism in the Edmonton area. This gathering will include multifaith and intercultural expressions of ceremony, prayer, song, and food. We will also hear from a gifted panel of speakers from different spiritual paths, each sharing their thoughts and experiences about the ways that the teachings, stories, scriptures, and practices of their own spiritual tradition serve to encourage and motivate them in advocating and working for racial justice and inclusion within their faith community and beyond.

Do you want to be part of this movement too? Join us at the Boyle Street Plaza (9538-103A Street, Edmonton) on February 11th. To register for free tickets, please visit the EventBrite Link
