In the community

Mennonite Central Committee

MCC is accepting donations to support people affected by the Feb. 6 earthquake in Türkiye and Syria. MCC is working with long-term partners in Aleppo and surrounding areas to provide emergency food, shelter, hygiene, sanitation supplies and trauma counselling. In a country already vulnerable from years of conflict, this was a devastating blow. You can share God’s love and compassion with our global neighbours by providing a gift online at mcccanada.ca/earthquake, by calling 888-622-6337 or by sending a cheque earmarked for “Syria and Türkiye earthquake” to your local MCC office.

Take the sting out of winter’s chill by joining The Great Winter Warm-up. By the end of 2023, our goal is to donate a grand total of 45,000 blankets to our global neighbors who are dealing with conflict and disaster. Learn more at mcccanada.ca/great-winter-warm-up.

Mendelssohn’s Elijah. Concert on Friday, March 31, 2023 at 7:30 pm at the Winspear Center. Mendelssohn’s Elijah is undoubtedly one of the greatest choral/orchestral masterpieces of all time. Last performed by Richard Eaton Singers in 2012 to great acclaim, this magnificent choral work has remained enduringly popular with audiences since the first public performance on August 26, 1846. Produced by RES in 1977 and 1981, and in the opening season of the Winspear Centre in 1998. Elijah is beloved by RES choristers, who are excited, once again, to showcase this masterpiece.
Featuring Dr Leonard Ratzlaff as conductor in his final concert in the Winspear as the Music Director of Richard Eaton Singers.

Opera Nuova

Romance, Romance. This delightful pairing of one-act musicals, one classic and one modern, takes a comical and moving look at the mysteries of love. Act I is a delightful romp during turn-of-the-century Vienna, as two wealthy but bored socialites masquerade as impoverished bohemians seeking romance. Act II explores modern affection and disaffection as two married couples share a summer house in the Hamptons. Learn more and buy tickets on the Opera Nuova website.
