In the Community

Mennonite Central Committee

Go!100, May 24 to August 30: There’s still time to join GO!100 to raise funds for relief, development and peace. We’d love for you to share your GO! stories of the summer with us! Visit MCC’s website to register, support a participant, or to learn more.

SALT Update: Three young adults from Alberta will be participating in MCC’s SALT program in the coming year.  SALTers (young adults aged 18-30) spend a year being immersed in a new culture as they serve a community through one of MCC’s international partners.  Please pray for Anjali (Egypt), Micah (Indonesia) and Kate (Nepal) as they prepare to step into their assignments in August.

MCC Alberta Golf Classic, September 6: The early bird registration deadline has been extended to August 16. Don’t miss the MCC Alberta Golf Classic on Friday September 6 at Eagle Rock Golf Course in Leduc County, AB! After the game, come to lunch to hear about MCC’s work in Guatemala with local partner, Anadesa, and their education and community development work with indigenous children, youth, and women. Up to $40,000 in donations at the tournament will be matched. For more information, visit the MCC website here.

Interested in sponsoring the MCC Alberta Golf Classic? Have questions about the tournament? Contact Brandon at brandonhiebert@mccab.ca or call (403) 275-6935.

Grow Hope: Donors have sponsored 316 acres, leaving 28 acres left to go! A suggested $350 donation helps cover one acre’s input costs and at harvest, proceeds are donated and matched up to 4-1 through the government and the Canadian Foodgrains bank for MCC’s food projects around the world. To learn more and give, go to the MCC website.

Chester Ronning Centre

Philosopher’s Café Series: The Progressive Genius: What is the central progressive truth? What has been the gifts of the progressive political perspective since its inception in the 19th and early 20th century? Has it lost its way? Where are progressives to be found? Join us on Thursday, August 22 at 1:30 pm at Fox & Fable in Camrose. David Goa, Founding Director of the Chester Ronning Centre for the Study of Religion & Public Life, will open up our conversation.
